Very pleased to see that Jacob Ross' novel was one of your selections. I pride myself on having read a sizeable portion of Caribbean literature and this new and surprisingly fresh and profound narrative voice left me wonderstruck.
Keep up the good work, CRB.

If the Naipaul bio qualifies, then what about Netherland, which I am quite sure was better by far than everything else on the list?
And perhaps a simple and admirable resolution Antilles might adopt in the New year would be to stop talking down to its "dear readers"?

Reading French's biography of Naipaul, one thing that struck me (other than Naipaul having lived not that far from me in London when I was a boy), was Naipaul asking Lloyd Reckord if he knew any fast women. That's a seriously arresting image.

I note that Naipaul's long-time editor at André Deutsch, Diana Athill, got the OBE for services to literature in the New Year's Honours.
