Cover image of the June 2010 issue of tongues of the ocean. Photo by Rachael Whitehouse, courtesy tongues of the ocean

A Sudden and Violent Change was a cross-disciplinary art exhibition that ran earlier this year at The Hub, a contemporary art centre in Nassau. This was an exhibition with both a curator, Jonathan Murray, and an editor, Sonia Farmer; it paired off ten visual artists and ten writers to make work in which the visual responded to the literary, and vice versa.

The June 2010 issue of tongues of the ocean, which begins publication today, is built around A Sudden and Violent Change. Each weekly installment features a writer/artist pair from the exhibition, beginning with Christi Cartwright and Jace McKinney.

You can read introductory essays from the exhibition’s curator and editor here and here, and find out more about tongues in the interview with its editor, Nicolette Bethel, that ran in the May 2009 CRB.
